India’s economy may be slowing down, but its online gambling sector is experiencing a boom never noticed before. Riding on the cellular and net revolution sweeping the nation, online gaming cuts across socio-economic and ages groups. Almost 60% of India’s online players are under age 24, according to industry estimates. Young net users have a greater propensity to play internet games, particularly on mobile devices. In general, there are approximately 300 million online players, according to the All India Gaming Federation.

Most players in India are introduced to internet gambling by their own friends, family or peer classes, and they indulge in the action to relieve stress and enhance social interaction, demonstrated that a distinct analysis by KPMG-Google. Online gaming revenues are increasing at 22 percent yearly, and the business is estimated to reach Rs 11,400 crore from 2023. All this conditioning maybe reflects people’s selection of internet games. The best three online gambling genres in India are mystery (includes logic, pattern recognition, sequence solving, word completion, etc), activity (includes physiological challenges, hand-eye coordination, etc), and plan (in which the players’ decision-making skills have a key impact on the outcome of the game).

The KPMG report indicates that multiplayer formats engage more than one-third of India’s gamers by providing them with an”opportunity for social interaction and a feeling of success along with other players”. About 42 percent are willing to pay Rs 200 (or more) a month to”remain in the match”.

The”material customisation” and digitisation of traditional Indian games are expected to”redefine” the online gaming market. “The chance extended by local material could be further augmented by adapting to local languages,” KPMG explains.

Fantasy gaming rage Not very long ago, fantasy sports (that lets users earn cash awards) was considered illegal in India. It was confused with betting and gambling. But, the unmistakable success of Dream11, which became the country’s first gaming unicorn in April, validated an entire industry. Fantasy sports players in India have grown 25X in three years. The number of platforms offering daily fantasy games has witnessed a 7X rise to reach 70 in 2018 from 10 in 2016. India is estimated to have 100 million fantasy gamers by the end of 2019. Almost 74 percent of users play fantasy sports one to three times a week. “This section has the potential to spawn an entire ecosystem around it, and may help deepen user involvement with their favorite sports,” states KPMG.

Gaping gender gap Online gaming in India, much like in most parts of the world, is a male-dominated industry, with 83 percent of gamers being men. But, this is mainly due to the overall uneven gender distribution on the Indian internet, says KPMG. About 15 percent of women are heavy gamers, as opposed to a quarter of male gamers. “This decrease propensity for a heavy gamer, coupled with disparity in online penetration contributes to male dominance among significant players,” the report explains. The ratio is a bit better in regards to casual players, using a 20 percentage representation from girls. Female players often favor puzzle games, while men players prefer sports, action and social card games.
